IT was one of the largest meetings on the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre’s 2012 calendar, with the Chinese Life Insurance Congress attracting close to 3000 delegates, and the centre hosting plenary and breakout meetings as well as the opening ceremony and awards evening. The Centre Technical Production and Design team organised an array of acts, starting with two 2.5m tall bouncing kangaroos which greeted delegates as they arrived at Sydney Airport. Meeting the brief, the team also created an impressive 30-metre wide stage for the Bayside Auditorium, spanned by a huge Sydney Harbour Bridge and framed with Chinese Life banners. They also created a 3D model Sydney Opera House (above) - measuring eight metres long and more than three metres high for the Parkside Foyer, providing a popular photo backdrop. The two day event featured a wide range of performances including a pipe band, a father and daughter duet, an aerial acrobatics act and a spectacular drumming group. Centre ceo Ton van Amerongen said, “This was a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate the creativity and professionalism of the Centre’s team to an international audience and also showcase our fantastic location.”

NOVOTEL Coffs Harbour Pacific Bay Resort played host last weekend to a group of PCO’s to showcase the uniqueness of Coffs Coast. It was a famil that kick started with a beach buggy ride – an exhilarating, if extremely windblown experience. Next they met with the Time out Xperiences team, who started with an ice breaking, teambuilding activity that saw them helping fellow conference organisers into Velcro suits, climbing onto Segways and laser sport shooting. After many laughs and a few falls, it was as though the group had known each other for years. Those who braved the flying trapeze school, Zip Circus, were also able to tick off a few bucket list achievements after the event. There was a cooking class with Tony Gill, Novotel Coffs Harbour’s executive chef who showed off his culinary skills. This was followed by a lunch where the cooking skills of the PCO’s came to the fore. Saturday evening provided an opportunity to meet and chat with some of Coffs offsite activity and venue operators and was followed by a delightful dinner in Charlie’s Restaurant. Next morning there was an early start with a yoga class on the putting tee which was challenging enough to make the buffet breakfast in Charlie’s Restaurant seem well deserved. Sunday provided a chance to experience the stunning surrounds of the resort & have a hot stone massage or facial in Novotel’s day spa, Tranquility. The famil ended memorably with a one on one interaction with dolphins and seals at Dolphin Marine Magic.

HIGH tea doesn’t come much loftier than the one Virgin Atlantic guests enjoyed recently at 35000ft. All part of Virgin’s sponsorship of the Sydney Film Festival, the tea party with a twist brought to life this unique onboard feature. Guests were greeted by The Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter then guided down a purple carpet by Virgin Atlantic crew toward a long dining table covered with giant tea cups full of colourful flowers, strewn tea cups, milk jugs and sauces, toy rabbits, glasses overflowing with lollies and high tea stands filled with yummy treats of macaroons, finger sandwiches, mini quiches, scones with jam and cream and mini cupcakes. While guests sipped on a glass of bubbly or a Twinings tea, British comedian Paul Warner presented a quirky comedy act. At the event's conclusion there was a preview screening of cutting edge British film ‘My Brother the Devil’ introduced by the director, Sally El Hosaini. Virgin Atlantic’s on board bar is a feature of the Sydney Film Festival hub this year, found in The Lower Town Hall. Pictured above at the High Tea event earlier this week is Accor’s Gaynor Reid, The Queen of Hearts and Belinda Gurd and Roni Trieu, Virgin Atlantic.
