ICC Hotel to be branded Sofitel.
The Schwartz Family Company has purchased the International Convention Centre Hotel in Sydney, which will be managed by Accor under its luxury Sofitel brand.
The announcement was made by the NSW Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner this morning in Darling Harbour that the Company had signed a conditional agreement with developer Lend Lease to purchase the hotel.
The purchase price was confidential, the Company said.
It said the hotel, with 600 rooms and 35 storeys, would be the largest and “most significant” new hotel to be built in the city for more than 20 years and would be an integral part of the new Darling Harbour conference, entertainment and business precinct.
Construction is set to start at the end of this year with completion slated for the second quarter of 2017.
Dr Jerry Schwartz said the Company believed the Sofitel branding would help maximise the potential of the hotel.
“The Schwartz Family Company has had over a decade’s experience operating hotels in Sydney, and with many of them being major conference hotels, the decision to purchase the ICC hotel is a natural progression for the company.”
Accor Pacific chief operating officer Simon McGrath said the the flagship hotel would complement a “strong network for the brand” in the region.
The hotel will have a lacework curtainwall facade of glass, meeting rooms, a ballroom and panoramic views of the harbour and city.
