ROYAL Caribbean International has scheduled a drydock for Allure of the Seas in Jan for “standard maintenance work”.
The move follows the ship reportedly suffering issues with its propulsion system which has seen its speed affected.
Five port calls by Allure to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands have been cancelled between Sep and Jan 2018 as a result, the Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA) confirmed in a statement.
VIPA exec director David Mapp said the mechanical issue would affect the tourism industry, and that he would meet with RCCL to discuss additional visits in the future to offset missed calls.
Port calls to St. Thomas have been shifted to San Juan, Puerto Rico as a result of the propulsion issues on Allure of the Seas and and St Kitts in the Bahamas has also been affected.
