IHG to launch new property in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.
InterContinental Hotels Group has just announced that the former Ritz Carlton and Stamford hotel in Double Bay will relaunch next year as the InterContinental Sydney Double Bay after a major refurbishment.
IHG has signed a management agreement for the 140-room property with Singapore-based Royal Hotels, with the reopening set for Jan 2014 following the multimillion dollar upgrade.
Facilities will include a 300-guest ballroom, meeting spaces, an all-day dining restaurant, Club InterContinental, cafe, lounge and bar and a rooftop pool.
The property was purpose-built as the Ritz Carlton in 1991, and became the Stamford in 2001 before closing four years ago with a view to redevelopment.
IHG Asia, Middle East and Africa ceo Jan Smits said the deal was “a significant development for the InterContinental brand in Australia”.
