NSW government grants approval to Darling Harbour Live project.
The “Darling Harbour Live” consortium comprising Lend Lease, Capella, AEG Ogden and Spotless has been granted planning approval for the development of the new convention, exhibition and entertainment facilities which will replace the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre precinct.
Planned for a December 2016 opening, the $1 billion project “will ensure Sydney continues to successfully compete on the national and global stage for major events,” according to NSW deputy premier Andrew Stoner.
“This development will transform Darling Harbour, and will deliver an estimated $5 billion in economic benefit for NSW over the next 25 years,” he said.
In a statement just issued, Stoner confirmed that the existing facilities will close in December this year, and that the temporary “Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island” will be ready for the start of next year’s exhibition season, with the first event planned for February 2014.
