In the past two months groups have collectively donated laptops, educational materials, books, refurbished damaged property, re-painted classrooms and furniture, and raised AU$35,750 in a fundraising auction for villages and schools in the local area.
According to InterContinental Meetings, immersing delegates in a community is the most intimate way to appreciate a destination. These volunteer efforts aim to improve education and living standards amongst Natadola Bay communities, while inspiring memorable bonds that engage delegates beyond the obligation of community service.
Principle of Malomalo Primary School, Master Farukh says this involvement has brought immeasurable happiness to children, staff, school management and parents.
“We are honoured to connect communities in need with these enthusiastic, community-minded groups”, says general manager Scott Williams. “The feedback is always positive – children enjoy interacting with the delegates and sharing their culture and way of life, and delegates take home memorable experiences”.
Long established local relationships enable the resort to support these community projects. Affectionately known as ‘The People’s Resort’ due to its ownership by The Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) the resort has been working with the local community since it opened in 2009 and also runs a long-term ‘Community Care’ fund which finances numerous projects. |
